Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

Posted on September 20, 2025

Here’s a delicious twist on a classic comfort food: Texas Toast Sloppy Joes — buttery garlic toast topped with hearty, saucy beef and melty cheese. It’s quick, family-friendly, and perfect for weeknight dinners or party snacks!

🍞 Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

🍔 Ingredients:

  • 1 box (8 slices) frozen Texas Toast (garlic or cheese flavor)

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef

  • ½ small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 cup Sloppy Joe sauce (store-bought or homemade – see below)

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese

  • Optional: chopped parsley or green onions for garnish

🔥 Instructions:

1. Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat according to Texas Toast package instructions (usually 425°F / 220°C).

2. Bake the Texas Toast:

  • Place toast slices on a baking sheet.

  • Bake halfway (about 4–5 minutes), then remove from oven — you’ll finish baking them with toppings.

3. Make the Sloppy Joe Mixture:

  • In a skillet over medium heat:

    • Cook ground beef until browned; drain excess fat.

    • Add onions and garlic; sauté for 2–3 minutes.

    • Stir in Sloppy Joe sauce and simmer for 5 minutes.

🔄 Homemade Sauce Option:
Mix ½ cup ketchup, 1 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tbsp mustard, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, salt & pepper.

4. Assemble Toasts:

  • Spoon the meat mixture generously over each partially baked Texas toast slice.

  • Top with shredded cheese.

5. Bake Again:

  • Return to oven and bake 5–7 more minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

🌿 Serve With:

  • Pickles or a side salad

  • Crinkle fries or tater tots

  • Corn on the cob or coleslaw

🧊 Storage & Reheating:

  • Store meat mixture separately for 3–4 days.

  • Toast and top fresh when ready to eat.

  • Reheat in oven or air fryer for best texture.
