Caramel Apple Puff Pastry Recipe

Here’s a cozy and irresistible Caramel Apple Puff Pastry recipe — flaky, golden pastry filled with gooey caramel and tender cinnamon apples. Perfect for fall, holidays, or a quick dessert with minimal prep but maximum wow!


🍎 Caramel Apple Puff Pastry

Flaky. Buttery. Sweet & cinnamony with gooey caramel in every bite.


✅ Ingredients (Makes 6–8 pastries)

🥐 For the Pastry:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed (store-bought or homemade)

  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp lemon juice (to prevent browning)

  • Pinch of salt

  • 6–8 soft caramels or 2–3 tbsp caramel sauce

🥚 For Assembly:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

  • 1 tbsp water

  • Optional: coarse sugar for topping

🍯 For Drizzle (Optional):

  • Extra caramel sauce for drizzling

  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting


🥣 Instructions

1. Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.


2. Prepare Apple Filling

In a small pan or bowl, mix:

  • Diced apples

  • Brown sugar

  • Cinnamon

  • Vanilla extract

  • Lemon juice

  • Pinch of salt

(Optional: Sauté the apple mixture for 3–4 minutes over medium heat to soften slightly — especially if using firmer apples.)


3. Cut & Fill Puff Pastry

  • Unfold thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.

  • Cut into 6–8 squares or rectangles.

  • In the center of each piece, place:

    • A spoonful of the apple mixture

    • A soft caramel or drizzle of caramel sauce


4. Fold & Seal

  • Fold pastry over into a triangle or rectangle, depending on shape.

  • Seal edges by pressing with a fork.

  • Place on baking sheet.


5. Brush & Bake

  • Mix egg with 1 tbsp water for egg wash.

  • Brush tops of pastries and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.

  • Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.


6. Cool & Drizzle

  • Let cool slightly.

  • Drizzle with warm caramel sauce and dust with powdered sugar if desired.


🧊 Storage

  • Room Temp: Store in an airtight container for 1–2 days.

  • Fridge: Up to 3–4 days. Reheat in oven or toaster oven to crisp up.

  • Freezer: Freeze before baking. Bake straight from frozen, adding 3–5 minutes to cook time.


🔄 Variations

  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts to filling for crunch

  • Use store-bought pie filling if in a rush

  • Swap caramel for Nutella or cream cheese glaze

  • Make mini turnovers using a biscuit cutter for small round pastries
