Butter cookie

Here’s a simple and classic Butter Cookie recipe — rich, melt-in-your-mouth, and perfect for holidays, gifting, or an everyday treat. These cookies have just a few ingredients and can be shaped, rolled, or piped depending on your style!


🍪 Classic Butter Cookies

🕒 Prep Time: 10 minutes

⏱️ Bake Time: 10–12 minutes

❄️ Chill Time (optional): 30 minutes

🍽️ Yields: 24–30 cookies


📝 Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg yolk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (or almond extract for a twist)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • ¼ tsp salt


👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

2. Cream the butter and sugar:

In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).

3. Add yolk and vanilla:

Mix in the egg yolk and vanilla extract until fully combined.

4. Add dry ingredients:

Gradually mix in flour and salt until a smooth dough forms. (Dough will be soft but not sticky.)

5. Shape the cookies:

  • For drop cookies: Roll into 1-inch balls and flatten slightly.

  • For piped cookies: Transfer dough to a piping bag with a star tip and pipe onto sheet.

  • For rolled cookies: Chill the dough for 30 minutes, then roll out and cut into shapes.

6. Bake:

Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn golden.

7. Cool completely on a wire rack.


🌟 Optional Additions:

  • Sprinkle with sugar before baking for sparkle.

  • Dip in melted chocolate and add sprinkles.

  • Add a thumbprint and a bit of jam before baking for a buttery jam cookie.
