Here’s a classic Applesauce Cake recipe β€” moist, warmly spiced, and incredibly easy to make. 🍎 This old-fashioned treat is perfect for fall, but delicious any time of year. Serve it plain, glazed, or with a dusting of powdered sugar!


🍰 Old-Fashioned Applesauce Cake

⏱️ Bake Time: 35–45 minutes

🍴 Yields: One 9×13 cake or two 8-inch rounds


πŸ“ Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1Β½ tsp baking soda

  • Β½ tsp salt

  • 1Β½ tsp cinnamon

  • Β½ tsp nutmeg

  • Β½ tsp allspice or cloves

  • Β½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup sugar (or Β½ white, Β½ brown sugar)

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 cups unsweetened applesauce

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Optional:

    • Β½ cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

    • Β½ cup raisins or dried cranberries

πŸ”Ή 1. Preheat Oven & Prep Pan

  • Preheat to 350Β°F (175Β°C).

  • Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or two 8-inch round pans.


πŸ”Ή 2. Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a bowl, whisk together:

    • Flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.


πŸ”Ή 3. Cream Butter & Sugar

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  • Beat in eggs, one at a time, then add vanilla.


πŸ”Ή 4. Add Applesauce

  • Stir in the applesauce until well combined (batter may look slightly separated β€” that’s okay).


πŸ”Ή 5. Combine

  • Gradually mix in the dry ingredients.

  • Fold in nuts and raisins if using.


πŸ”Ή 6. Bake

  • Pour into prepared pan.

  • Bake for 35–45 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  • Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.


🍯 Optional Toppings

  • Dust with powdered sugar

  • Drizzle with vanilla or maple glaze

  • Frost with cream cheese icing for extra indulgence
